We study health and well-being of young children, families, and early childhood educators
The Wellbeing for Early Learning Lab (WELLab), led by Dr. Lieny Jeon, the Jane Batten Bicentennial Associate Professor of Early Childhood Education at the University of Virginia School of Education and Human Development. The WELLab focuses on early care and education, as well as the health of children, teachers, and families. We strive to better understand factors that are related to children’s development, particularly for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. We do this by examining how educator wellbeing is related to children’s development, as well as how individual, family, and environmental factors contribute to children’s development. A large part of our work focuses on educators’ social-emotional capacity and how this is related to children’s social-emotional development. Our lab works to promote equity in access and quality of educational and social services. WELLab maintains a number of collaborative partnerships with early childhood organizations in our community. In doing so, we hope to more effectively translate our research findings into valuable contributions towards improving the health, education, and wellbeing of children, caregivers, and communities.
There's much to see here. So, take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about us. We hope you take a moment to read our research and latest news.
